Most of the group found this book had to be read in small bites and some found it hard to get into. Not everybody enjoyed it, but all agreed it was educational, highlighted the way women were treated (despite proof of amazing feats) and that the woman in question had an amazing character. Had we not known it to be a true story some might have felt parts of this raw story far-fetched.
The previously untold story of an American woman called Virginia Hall who, despite having a wooden leg, in 1942 was the Gestapo’s most urgent target as she had infiltrated Vichy France, trained civilians to be part of the Resistance and sprung soldiers from Nazi prison camps. The first woman to go undercover for British SOE, her intelligence changed the course of the war.
