WALKING GROUP

Status:Temporarily inactive
Group leader:

Some members of our u3a have expressed an interest in restarting our Walking group because they have been missing it. They are hoping to find a core of people who will be interested in helping to organise this.

If you are interested in helping out with the planning or just being a member of the group, please get in touch with our Group Liaison Officer. We will then organise a meeting to discuss the way forward.

Our u3a walks are social walks. The chat is as important as the walk. We like to enjoy the scenery, wild flowers etc and we take a snack and stop for 15 mins or so.

Walks are generally 4.5/5miles in length and start promptly at 10.30 from the parking area specified for each walk. We walk in all weathers, although we have cancelled in extreme conditions.

Occasionally, in the warmer months, we do a longer walk of up to 8 miles when we take a packed lunch.

Any Bedale u3a member can join us for a walk and a lift can generally be arranged.

Everyone is required to wear appropriate shoes and carry waterproofs.

  • West Tanfield/Mickley

Sally W and Chris Chipp led us on a lovely walk around the River Ure to Mickley. Loads of wild flowers to see. Weather was really lovely and it was not wet underfoot.

  • Harmby and Spennithorne

Our walk started from Harmby near The Pheasant pub. The weather was cool to start with and we had very little sun. The route took us down through fields to the river Ure after navigating some quite tricky stiles. We emerged into Spennithorne near the Old Horn and made our way uphill with views across…
