This talk sets Hackfall in its historical context, examines how different generations viewed it, catalogues its decline and outlines the efforts to restore it to glory.

David was educated at Ripon Grammar School and the University of Birmingham. He worked as a teacher before joining the Countryside Commission. He later set up his own public relations company. He’s always been interested in architectural history and in garden design. He has written several books for the Automobile Association and articles for newspapers and magazines. He was a Mastermind finalist in 1999.
