If you get the opportunity to go and see this stage musical, I totally recommend that you take it.
On 13th August we set off from Bedale in two minibuses to visit Keswick in the Lake District. The two-hour journey goes very quickly with such beautiful scenery to look at and very lively company. Arriving at about 11.30, I think most people decided to find somewhere to get some lunch. There are many places to choose from that cater for all tastes. We were also lucky enough to be there on market day, and I don’t doubt several people came back from the trip laden with purchases.
The Theatre on the Lake is a short meander from the marketplace going via the park. However, for those with limited mobility the coach driver had very kindly arranged to pick up again at 13.30 to take them to the Theatre.
I cannot say that there was anybody particularly well-known amongst the cast that we saw. However, of those dozen members every single one had an amazing voice and most played at least one, if not two, instruments.
Those who are familiar with the film version of this story will understand that in parts it is very sad. However, balancing that the music (written by Gary Barlow from Take That) is for the most part uplifting and the audience spent a lot of time laughing.
Once again the benefit of these u3a outings shone through with everybody agreeing that they cannot wait to see where we get the opportunity to visit next.
