Ian is on a journey in search of Yorkshire's past, present and imaginary, trying to get to the heart of Britain's most independent minded county. He travels from Elsecar Old Colliery to York Minster, via Ilkley, Hull and Horbury. The author is a poet and writer who lives near Barnsley and has appeared regularly on both radio and tv.

The book received mixed reviews from the group. Some thought it was witty and entertaining while others didn't appreciate the humour and thought it was too centred on South Yorkshire. It was felt that it was a bit long-winded at times and that the fairly limited coverage of the county did not justify the title.
